No do not use the puzzle piece, ever.

Infinity rainbow is often used.

Maqny with Autism reject the idea of being incomplete or regarded as some big mystery that needs to be solved. The puzzle piece catches the ire of many on the spectrum for this reason.

Hmm... I've never really felt like I'm being oppressed or belittled by the puzzle piece. I kinda like it, actually. Just because they used a puzzle piece doesn't necessarily mean it's used to represent Autism Speaks, the group you're talking about.

I know this is an old comment so I apologize, but do you know/have any ideas of what should be used?
Because I want to make Autism headcannon stamps for a few of my fave characters but I don't know what else to use.
I don't wanna use the puzzle ribbon, any idea which ribbon I could use?

use an infinity rainbow, that's the widely acceptable symbol for autism.

While it is nice to see positive autism posts, I was wondering if you knew of the meanings and implications behind the puzzle piece imagery? Many people from the autistic community find it offensive because it contributes to the idea that autism needs to be fixed instead of accepted and helped, and many people find the puzzle piece imagery to seem childlike and contributing to the stereotype that people with autism are like adult children.

It is still nice to see pro-autism stuff, I just thought you should be aware!!

It's a symbol for their awareness campaign.
Ask them, not me.

actually, its the symbol for Autism Speaks, and it's a horrendous campaign that purposely demonizes autism and asperger's syndrome, and focuses on 'curing' autism through any means possible, rather than understanding it.
they claim to be all about listening to autistic people, but there are no autistic people in any positions of power in their campaign.
if you want to support a campaign that actually helps people with autism, check out the Autism Self-Advocacy Network.

I agree totally. I have Aspergers and every where I seem to go; Its always: "Can you change your Thoughts/Views in order to fit in with the rest of soicity. I'm quite frankly over it and wonder if people with Autism/Aspergers will ever be seen as normal; with a hint of quirkiness...
